Racing

The sailing team travels to races around the Northwest throughout the fall and spring semesters.  We race against the other teams of the Northwest district, mostly Washington, Western, Oregon, Portland State, and Oregon State.  We also travel down to California for larger intersectionals.  Intersectionals are open to teams from all districts whereas our district regattas are open to only members of the Northwest district.

We race in flying juniors or fjs which are 14 foot two person dinghys.  There are usually between 6-20 boats at each regatta with bouy courses configured to take approximately 20 minutes.  Racing takes place on Saturday and Sunday with an attempt to finish as many races as possible.  For singlehand regattas we race lasers and various 19-25 foot sloops for any sloop regattas.  However we typically only have one singlehand and sloop regatta each year as a national qualifier.
